The above image was taken in “my other home” or happy escape place near Pelican, Alaska. I have been going here on and off since 1981 when a dear friend and college roommate told me of the place and the opportunity to get jobs working on fishing boats or in the fish and crab processing plants in this Southeast Alaskan town about 100 miles due west of Juneau. The only way to get there is by boat or float plane and there are no streets or cars. Just a mile long boardwalk that hugs the coast of Lisianski Inlet. So naturally we quit college and did a road trip cross country to Washington State and took the Alaskan Marine Highway ferry to Juneau and then another ferry to Pelican. It was an experience I will never forget and visit as often as I can. My friend lives up the inlet from Pelican off the grid and there isn’t a more spectacularly beautiful place in the world.
